Homes in Bethpage come in all shapes and sizes with small and large homes, homes with small properties in town, and larger properties on the outskirts of town. Some houses are old and some are newer with varying architectures. Yards are well-landscaped with large mature shade trees and lawns. The town does not have sidewalks, so be sure to walk facing oncoming traffic and have your dog securely leashed. Cultivated farmland and pastures surround the residential community and a creek runs along the southern border.

The terrain in town is flat and there are no steep inclines to navigate while traveling on foot, making it easy to get around the community with your puppy pal. The ravine near the creek has some rough terrain so remember that creeks with running water can present a hazard to dogs and people due to currents. Be careful when walking around the creek area.

There are many rural roads around Bethpage that are ideal for walking, however, country roads do not have separate pedestrian paths and traffic can be moving fast even on quiet rural roads. If you take advantage of these 'accidental greenways,' while walking with your dog, keep your pup secure and walk facing traffic on the right side of the road. Natural, undeveloped properties in the area are tempting to walk on and play with your dog, but be sure to stay off private land, especially cultivated farmland, without the permission of the owner.

If you travel up Vernon Creek Road to Brush Creek-Fort Road, you can find a trailhead that provides a greenway that extends into the heavily treed natural area. This is a great place to explore with your dog, but be aware that wildlife in this area may not take kindly to being disturbed. Keep your pup on a leash throughout your strolls here.
