Franklin Park is an Austin, Texas neighborhood located on the south side of the city. There is a commercial and light industrial area on the northwest side of the community, but not a lot of small businesses to access on foot. There are many schools, parks, and natural areas in and around the neighborhood that are accessible on foot.

The weather in Austin can be too hot for comfortable on-foot travel during summer months with temperatures well above 80 degrees Fahrenheit. When summer heat occurs, try walking your dog earlier or later in the day, picking shady routes, and taking lots of water to keep you both hydrated. Winters are mild with temperatures well above freezing and little need to layer up to stay warm. Fall and spring have moderate, comfortable walking temperatures. Severe thunderstorms and even tornadoes occur in the region and pedestrians with pets will need to check weather forecasts for hazards.

While the interstate is not a pedestrian-friendly area, the Williamson Creek Greenbelt more than makes up for it, providing an inviting walking destination for area canines. The residential section of the neighborhood is located on the south and east sides of the district and consists of low rise apartments near the freeway and moderate ranch-style homes on well maintained and landscaped properties. There are lots of trees and lawns in the residential area with quiet peaceful streets and sidewalks for pedestrians that make an ideal spot to stroll with your furry friend.

The area to the north has commercial and light industrial activity and is less vegetated with lots of pavement and more traffic, making it not as welcoming an area to walk with your dog. The terrain in the neighborhood is flat with no steep hills to climb and is easy for people and pets of all abilities to navigate.
