Govalle is a neighborhood located in the east section of Austin, close to the downtown business district. There are ethnic restaurants, live music venues, and theatre companies located in the region that make the area attractive to artists and the district is highly walkable. There is a shopping area on the north end which features a drugstore, a bank, shops, several eateries, and fast food outlets that residents of the area can easily reach on foot.

Austin summers are hot and severe storms occasionally occur that dog walkers need to be aware of. Walk your pet early or later in the day to avoid extreme heat and check forecasts for storms that would present a hazard. Winters are mild with temperatures well above freezing and warm jackets are not required to stay comfortable. The transition seasons of spring and fall feature warm temperatures which are ideal for pedestrians and their pups with plenty of sunny weather.

Govalle is a mixed-use neighborhood with commercial areas, institutions, industrial, and residential buildings. Some of the warehouses in the area have been repurposed as art studios.

The Boggy Creek runs through the neighborhood and divides the region into north and south sections. Residential streets on the south side do not always have sidewalks for pedestrians, so be sure to watch for traffic when sharing the road with vehicles. Homes in the area are modest, but have yards with plenty of shade trees and lawns. The industrial areas and busy commercial areas do not have much landscaping with parking lots and hot pavement which makes them undesirable walking locations.

The Colorado River forms the southern border. There is a farm located within the neighborhood known as the Boggy Creek Farm, providing unique landscape features along the creek. The terrain in the Govalle region is flat and there are no steep hills for pups and people to overcome when walking in Govalle.
