If you're able to escape Austin traffic, you can make it from this tucked-away neighborhood to downtown in just 45 minutes. Why should you go all the way downtown, though? The concerts, the fantastic food scene, and the fun, vibrant nightlife are all decent answers to that question. In Lakeland, you surely won't find much of a nightlife or live music scene, but you will find easy access to both the Colorado River and the beautiful Lake Travis. As a quiet, rustic lake community, Lakeland is just steps from boat ramps, golf courses, spa resorts, and waterfront parks.

If that isn't enough to relax you, consider the unique, landscape of the Texas Hill Country. Rolling hills covered in green brush and wildflowers cascade through the rustic plains of Texas in this region known for its affluent neighborhoods, lake-living, and wineries. It's here that the iconic 360 bridge towers above the valley.

Lakeland is relatively rustic, so sidewalks aren't always available while out on a walk with the pooch. It's likely you and your furry friend will enjoy hopping in the car and driving to any number of nearby spots rather than walking around the block.

While the Capitol City isn't technically part of the Hill Country, Lakeland finds itself right in the middle of it. The region is so hilly that it's a popular destination for bicyclists. Pros and hobbyists alike mount up and test their strength and endurance while scaling these hills. You and your pup can enjoy these hills by ditching the bike and heading to any number of trails, most of which are as little as a 15-minute drive from the Lakeland neighborhood. But if hiking isn't your thing, or it's too hot for sweating your way up rocky limestone and dirt, you can head to the lake or a swimming hole just as easily.

Lakeland Park is so close to the neighborhood it's named after, it would be silly to drive there. However, 'park' is a generous word for this rustic plot of land which features an open grassy lawn surrounded by cacti and other unforgiving brush.

Mary Quinlan Park is a short jaunt from Lakeland's core and it's here that you'll find gorgeous views of the Colorado River as well as kayak and boat access to the water. Being that it's so close to Lakeland, it's the perfect spot for a dog to enjoy some outdoor time.

Merely five minutes down the road is Selma Hughes Park. On the bank of the Colorado River, it is popular for kayakers looking for a spot to kick off as well as sunset-enthusiasts who dine al fresco at the picnic tables. However, there aren't any fenced-in areas, so your canine companion should be well-trained, or else, on a leash.
