MLK is a neighborhood located in Northeast Austin, Texas. There are lots of parks, cemeteries, a golf course, schools, and churches throughout the region for residents to walk to. Commercial businesses are also prevalent and MLK residents can easily reach local eateries, shops, and services around the area.

With plenty of walking destinations to enjoy, MLK locals and their canine companions have lots of choices and warm Austin weather is a bonus. Temperatures are warm in spring and fall and mild in winter. There are plenty of sunny days, but when it does rain, it pours! Flash floods that can occur during severe weather, thunderstorms, and even tornadoes are possible in the area. Check forecasts and take shelter when storms are approaching. Summer temperatures can be too hot for walking in the middle of the day and morning or evening walks during summer months may be more comfortable for you and your pup.

MLK is a triangular shaped neighborhood centered around E Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Airport Road runs along the southwest side, Springdale Road along the southeast, and Manor Road along the northern border.

There is lots of maintained green space in the area with a large golf course taking up significant real estate on the north side and two cemeteries located on the south and east sides. A large park and recreational center provide maintained grounds as well.  There are also a couple of creeks with green belts with more natural terrain.

The district can be hilly in some areas, so walking with your pup can pose a challenge where lots of steep inclines are situated. Be prepared for some elevation changes in the neighborhood. If you need to share the road with local traffic, watch for vehicles on hills and heavily landscaped areas where sightlines are not good. Walk facing oncoming traffic and keep your pet securely leashed!
