Known as one of the oldest communities of Austin, Texas, Old West Austin features beautifully preserved buildings and history around every corner. Comprised of three smaller neighborhoods, most of the community is listed on the National Register for Historic Sites, meaning you'll find many charming sights during your walk. Located just northwest of downtown, Old West Austin offers a suburban feel in the midst of the city. You won't find many businesses in the neighborhood, but downtown is just a short walk away if you're craving a shopping spree with Spot.

In case of emergency, there are two veterinary clinics in the northern part of Old West Austin, close to Seton Medical Center, the human hospital. Otherwise, this unique area in Austin is perfect for those who love historic landmarks. For example, Laguna Gloria is an art museum housed in a 100-year-old villa styled in Mediterranean architecture, providing a great day out!

Because of its location on the Balcones Escarpment, a series of hills formed from a fault line, Old West Austin is one of the most topographically unique areas in Austin. There are hills to climb, but there are flat roads as well. Many of the old, large homes are set on top of these rolling hills because of the beautiful views they provide. When walking in this neighborhood, be sure to keep this in mind. Wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water, especially on a hot day!

As it's mainly a residential community, there is less vehicular traffic to worry about. However, some of the roads don't have sidewalks, so stay aware of your surroundings. Old West Austin is also bordered to the west by the Mopac Expressway, so do your best to avoid walking near the entrance and exit ramps to that highway and keep your pup close to your side.

Old West Austin is a beautiful neighborhood with towering oak trees and sprawling lawns set in front of historic homes. The community is ideal because of the many parks and trails available to residents and dog walkers! In the north near the medical center is the Seider Springs Greenbelt, a sprawling green space set around a creek perfect for exploring. This is also where you can catch the Shoal Creek Greenbelt Trail which travels all the way down to Pease District Park.

The site of Eeyore's annual birthday party, Pease District Park, is popular for dog owners because of all of the land away from roads and busy sidewalks. You'll find many off-leash pups splashing in the creek and enjoying the day. The park is not fenced in, so if you do decide to let Fido run free, make sure they obey commands and won't run off.
