Elmwood is a small residential neighborhood located in Southwest Dallas. The community a part of the larger area known as Oak Cliff and is known for its beautiful tudor-style homes and manicured lawns surrounded by hills and natural foliage. Elmwood feels like a far cry from downtown Dallas with its suburban homes and charming business streets. The downtown area, located along South Edgefield Avenue, features a variety of local businesses including the Edgefield Animal Clinic. It was also a filming location for the movie Born on the Fourth of July.

Elmwood provides a charming area perfect for a leisurely walk with your pet. It's a great place to be outside, but make sure to check the weather before you head out. Dallas' temperatures stay fairly warm all year, averaging 50 degrees in the winter and high 80s in the summer, but heat waves and storms are something to watch out for.

You can also explore some forestland as the Elmwood Parkway cuts through the community. While there are many places to enjoy a walk in Elmwood, watch out for a few busy roadways. In the south, West Illinois Avenue is a multi-lane street, so make sure to stay on the sidewalk and only cross in the crosswalk.

In addition to its sprawling green lawns and tree-lined sidewalks, Elmwood is known for the expansive greenbelt that runs through it. The Elmwood Parkway, which runs along Cedar Creek, is a 16-acre area filled with wildlife, natural greenery, and areas to play, rest, and enjoy the outdoors. There are miles of walking paths that welcome leashed pets and their owners to explore. 

The parkway's trail leads south to Kiest Park, a 263-acre greenway with athletic fields, playgrounds, and many walking paths away from the busy roadways. If you're interested in doing some hiking, the Oak Cliff Nature Preserve is next to the park and offers miles of hiking and biking trails perfect for the pup who loves an adventure.
