The L Streets make up a neighborhood in the large community of Lake Highlands. Lake Highlands rounds off its population at a bit more than 85,000 folks! It has been described as a sprawling neighborhood that is a connection of 40+ subdivisions. The L Streets make up about 1,050 homes on streets all beginning with the letter L, thus, the “L Streets.”

This neighborhood is bordered by Walnut Hill Lane, Plano Road, Ferndale Road, and Northwest Highway. The L Streets are, for the most part, residential so you won’t find dog-friendly establishments within its borders. Instead, enjoy the great outdoors in the fall, winter, and spring when the temperatures are on the mild side. Keep your cool in the summer by walking in the early morning hours when the pavement has not had a chance to heat up. Enjoy the old growth trees that provide shade and keep your pup on a leash to comply with Dallas leash laws.

The Lake Highlands community has some gentle hills and a few valleys thrown in to give you some impressive views of downtown Dallas and a nice change of pace from an even terrain. The L Streets are smaller than the whole though, so the ups and downs of hills and valleys won’t be felt as much if you stay within the neighborhood. This will be a gentle walk for you and your pup.

The area was developed with alleyways throughout. These are not great walking spaces for you and your pup as visibility is hindered and drivers are often distracted. Stay on the sidewalks that wrap through the neighborhood and enjoy the residential landscaping. A suburban mix of natural and artificial turf, it will be a sidewalk-heavy walking experience if you stay within the borders of the neighborhood. The green spaces are private lawns that can ease your pup’s paws but plan to pick up any waste.

While there are no formal green spaces in the L Streets neighborhood, the parent community of Lake Highlands has been called one of the best neighborhoods in Dallas due, in part, to the green spaces it hosts. Claiming over 875 acres of parks and 26 miles of trails, it puts the outdoors at your beck and call. The nearest dog-friendly space is the White Rock Lake Dog Park, the happening dog park in Dallas! As a 3-acre off-leash dog park, it even has a fenced-in swimming area for your furry friends. You and your pup will find separate play areas for large and small dogs and walking trails. Take a walk to Mockingbird and North Buckner Road to find this doggie paradise.

If the dog park is a bit too much for your furry friend, along the way, you will have passed Norbuck Park, a massive 100-acre traditional park with lots of amenities and plenty of trails to enjoy.
