Swiss Avenue is a historic residential district located in Northeast Dallas, Texas. There are services such as banks, restaurants, and shops on the northeast side of the neighborhood along La Vista Drive that residents can reach on foot. Over 200 homes in the neighborhood feature historic architecture to check out on walks through the area. Nearby churches, schools, parks, and commercial areas provide plenty of walking destinations for residents of this unique community.

The temperatures in Dallas are rarely cold and, usually, only a light jacket is necessary for strolling the streets even during winter months. Occasional weather systems that combine cool air and moisture can produce freezing rain which makes walking treacherous and should be avoided. Summer months see the mercury skyrocket well above comfortable temperatures for walking. You and your dog will want to avoid the extreme heat by changing the time of day you walk. Protect your pup's paws when possible.

Swiss Avenue is a 2.5-mile long neighborhood that was the first area to be declared a historic district in Dallas. The historic residential district is centered along Swiss Avenue and includes the areas a few blocks north and south of the avenue. The region features many historic homes that represent various architectural styles including Spanish Revival, Georgian, Mediterranean, Mission, Queen Anne, Craftsman, Italian Renaissance, Tudor and Colonial Revival. Many homes sit on elevated properties with lush lawns, huge shade trees, and beautiful landscaping.

Many side streets are narrow and Swiss Avenue, which runs at a diagonal roughly northeast to southwest in the neighborhood, is a divided road with large grassy berms and landscaping. The terrain is flat and there are no steep hills at street level, although private properties feature various terrain and gardens. The area has sidewalks with a dense tree canopy in many places that make the neighborhood cool and pleasant for walking with your dog.

Swiss Avenue has large trees, lawns, and walking paths along the street that create a greenway with beautiful historic homes as a backdrop right in the community. The Dorothy and Wallace Savage Park is located right in the Swiss Avenue District. This small park features a sculpture garden. There are large trees, benches, and a cobblestone triangle where you can rest in the shade on walks down Swiss Avenue.

Randall Park is located to the southeast of this neighborhood. This park features various recreational facilities, a drinking fountain, restrooms, picnic spots, and many trails including access to the Santa Fe Trail Greenway. This 4.2-mile trail is paved and connects to other parks and trails in the area including the White Rock Lake Park Loop and the Union Pacific Trail. Cyclists, in-line skaters, and joggers also use this trail, so keep your dog securely leashed and watch out for other fast-moving users.
