Lorrence Creek is a predominantly residential neighborhood on the north side of San Antonio, Texas. The district is a 30-minute commute from San Antonio’s central business district. Lorrence Creek residents can walk to the Shadow Cliff Swim and Recreation Club in the neighborhood or a commercial area on the east side. The commercial shopping area has several casual eateries, shops, and services as well as a local veterinarian.

Dog owners in the area can enjoy walks with their dog all year round without being concerned about extreme cold or snow which is rare in the San Antonio region. Summer temperatures can be extremely hot and humid, resulting in dehydration if you and your pup overexert yourself. Take them for walks early or later in the day to avoid the heat. Watch out for severe thunderstorms which can have high winds and heavy rain. Flash floods can also occur with these storm systems and can create hazardous conditions. Exercise caution during these weather conditions.

Lorrence Creek is an irregularly shaped neighborhood with Henderson Pass on the south side, the Shady Oaks neighborhood on the north side, Brook Hollow Boulevard on the west side, and the Thousand Oaks neighborhood on the east side. The Lorrence Creek Preserve is situated around the creek which runs through the neighborhood, giving the community its name. A naturally wooded area borders the creek and ravine, providing a green space that divides the neighborhood's north section from the southern area.

Most of the area is residential with single-family detached homes on well landscaped and maintained properties. Yards have large trees and lawns that create an attractive backdrop when strolling with your pet through the area. There are sidewalks throughout the neighborhood, providing safe, separate pedestrian ways for people and pups.

The terrain is flat and there are no steep grades to hike up and down in hot San Antonio weather. A large apartment complex borders the neighborhood on the east side.

The Lorrence Creek Greenway runs through the neighborhood and provides natural green space to the community. The creek and surrounding area and nature trails can become treacherous when flash flooding occurs, so use caution.  The Lorence Creek Park is situated on the southwest side and provides a more maintained greenway with open areas and treed sections that are shady and pleasant.

To the south, the large Mcallister Park has sports fields and facilities for area residents and paved trails that make great paths for walking with your dog. The longer “Red” trail is just under two miles in length and connects to the shorter “Blue Loop” trail. There is a dog park in this greenway where your pup can enjoy some off-leash fun. The park does not have separate areas, so if you have a small, senior, or shy dog, you might want to check the park out at non-peak hours. There are doggy water fountains in the park and some agility obstacles for fun.
