Riverside is a large residential neighborhood located just south of downtown San Antonio, Texas. San Antonio is the second largest city in the state of Texas and is home to roughly one and a half million residents. This diverse city is known for its Spanish and Mexican influence with beautiful cathedrals and missions like the infamous Alamo, the San Antonio River Walk, a thriving theater and arts district, amusement parks, museums, zoos and aquariaums, universities, and a professional basketball team, the San Antonio Spurs.

Riverside is largely a residential community, but there are other attractions and amenities in this neighborhood. First, Riverside is home to Mission Concepcion, America’s oldest unrestored stone church completed in traditional Spanish Colonial style. You will also find several other churches, schools, gas stations, convenience stores, and a few restaurants in Riverside. Residentially, Riverside is typically composed on standalone, single-family homes, but there are also a few small apartment complexes.

Riverside, which sits on the eastern shore of San Antonio River, is only three miles south of the downtown area. Due to this proximity, Riverside is largely made of artificial terrain, but there are a few greenways on the west side of the neighborhood. There are sidewalks sporadically throughout, so in some areas, you will need to share the roads with other pedestrians and oncoming traffic.

This neighborhood is also relatively flat. There are some gradual hills in the southern part of Riverside, but, for the most part, you and Fido should not have to deal with steep hills on your daily walks.

The boundaries of Riverside include West Boyter Street to the north, Lucian Adams Freeway to the east, East Southcross to the south, and the San Antonio River to the west. Roosevelt Avenue and South Presa Street are also major roadways that cut through the Riverside neighborhood.

There are three greenways located in Riverside, but only one is a good option for you and Fido.

Located in the northwest corner of the neighborhood, you will find Roosevelt Park. This 13-acre public greenway is home to a public library branch, a playground, a clubhouse and pavilion, a swimming pool, and tennis courts. While there is no dog park in Roosevelt Park, it is still a great place to people watch, meet other local pups, and take a quick pit-stop while out on your walk. Just be sure to follow local leash law and clean up after your pup.

Additionally, there are also plenty of other greenways located within walking distance of Riverside. These include Concepcion Park, San Antonio River Eagleland and River Walk, Mission County Park, Padre Park, Espada Park, Morrill Park, Frank Tejeda Park, and Pytel Park.

Unfortunately, there are no fenced-in dog parks within walking distance of the Riverside neighborhood.
