Madrona is a neighborhood located on the eastern side of Seattle, Washington. There are unique specialty shops, restaurants, ethnic cuisine, and services located within walking distance in the community and beautiful homes and gardens as well as a school, waterfront, and parks that all make the area highly walkable.

Seattle winters are cool, wet, and sometimes snowy and icy when the temperatures fall below the freezing mark. Slippery walkways can be dangerous to pedestrians and pets who are at risk of falling. Wait until surfaces thaw and avoid ice covered sidewalks. Warm, waterproof jackets and good footwear are a necessity in Seattle winters if you want to comfortably walk your pup throughout the winter months. Spring and fall are warmer, though still rainy and wet sometimes. Summers are warm, dry, relatively storm free, and rarely too hot to enjoy hikes with your hound, so enjoy the beautiful weather and the opportunity to spend time with your canine companion.

Madrona is a small but attractive neighborhood on the western banks of Lake Washington. The community is bounded by the lake on the east side, East Cherry Street on the south, Martin Luther King Jr. Way on the west, and East Howell Street on the north. There is small four-block retail area and the rest of the neighborhood is comprised mainly of residential homes and greenways.

The terrain is very hilly and slopes down towards the water. Staircases and short cut trails help pedestrians navigate the steep terrain. If you are walking your dog in the area, you will need to conduct some strenuous climbs to get around. This can be problematic for people and pups with mobility issues.

The waterfront is lined with beautiful homes and private piers as well as natural greenway and a walking trail. Homes are elevated above street level and are mostly craftsman style character homes. There are sidewalks on residential streets providing separate safe walkways.

Madrona Park is a large 31.2-acre wooded greeneway located on the lake. There is a swimming area, fishing docks, a playground, picnic area, and a walking trail following Lake Washington Boulevard along the waterfront which is the perfect place for a trek with your furry friend. The trail is popular with cyclists and runners too, so watch out for other users on the path. Additional amenities include restrooms and drinking fountains.

Nora’s Woods is a small treed area within the community with shady spots and pretty trees. Alvin Larkins Park is a local neighborhood park with benches and a paved pedestrian path. Landscaped with a variety of trees and an open land, this park is popular for picnics and locals enjoying the greenway. William Grosse Park has rolling green lawns and large evergreen trees with a short paved path for strolls with your dog. Benches and picnic tables provide quiet places to rest in the shade and enjoy the park.
