SoDo is an industrial district located on the southside of Seattle’s central business district along the water. This neighborhood has seen warehouses converted into residential dwellings and an influx of commercial venues with bars, restaurants, and clubs attracting locals and other Seattle residents to enjoy the nightlife located here. The SoDo neighborhood's transformation from strictly industrial to residential and entertainment district has greatly increased the walkability of the region.

Seattle weather is rainy throughout much of the year due to its coastal location and dog walkers will want to invest in rain gear and an umbrella to stay dry. You can even obtain doggie rain gear if your pup does not like to get wet. The Emerald City Pet Supply Store is located in the neighborhood and is a great destination for food and doggie wear! Summers tend to be warm and dry, so you will enjoy some rain-free pleasant walking days with your pup during summer months.

Elliott Bay was once an industrial area. Plenty of industrial activity remains in the area, however, old warehouses have more recently been converted to loft apartments and condominiums and retail and entertainment venues have been developed, changing the character and making it more pedestrian-friendly.

There are sidewalks located along streets which create walkways for pedestrians and pets, however, there is limited natural landscaping in the area due to its former industrial character. The terrain is flat and there are no steep hills to navigate when strolling with your pooch in SoDo.

Several of Seattle's sports stadiums are located here and bring more traffic into the area when events are scheduled. Paved areas and parking lots around large facilities should be avoided as they do not make ideal walking locations, are hard on your pup's paws, and increase the risk for vehicles accessing venues. Luckily, you have plenty of options when it comes to walking.

Dr. Jose Rizal Park is located on SoDo’s east side, however, to access this greenway on foot, you and your pup will need to cross Interstate 5. There are limited pedestrian crossings, so access by the vehicle may be an alternative option. This large 9.6-acre greenway, however, does make a great destination for you and your canine companion as it is heavily treed with lots of walking trails. The park is situated on a wooded hillside and there is a grassy area in the upper section.

At the foot of the hill is an off-leash dog park providing plenty of room for your dog to play, but most of it is not fenced. There is a smaller enclosed dog run if you have concerns about your dog's off leash recall! When you and your pet visit the enclosed or open area, your dog should have good socialization with other dogs and people as this is a popular location for pet owners and their furry friends.
