To the north, there is a lot of student housing, but the streets are generally much quieter. The University District has a lot of little greenways interspersed throughout the neighborhood. Most of these greenways do not make for places to walk, but they are great for allowing your pup a chance to sink their paws into the grass or explore.
The 17th Avenue Northeast Centerstrip is an alternative for dog walkers who might want a place to walk in the grass. If you are looking for a long walk, the Burke Gilman Trail runs down along the south end of the University of Washington heading west on one side and north on the other. The trail intersects with other trails, allowing you to go miles in either direction.
Finally, at the north boundary of the University District is the Cowen-Ravenna Park. 50 acres total, it runs along the creek bed and is a little taste of nature in an urban area. There are trails running throughout the park, many of which are unpaved.
