Named aptly for the wide views of Lake Washington, View Ridge was cleared and developed specifically for the views it provides. The neighborhood is comprised almost entirely of residential spaces with the exception of a few service businesses along Sandpoint Way and the Sandpoint Country Club that makes up a large part of this neighborhood. Access to any amenities requires car trips to neighboring communities with the basics available just to the west. Even a cup of coffee might have to come with you from home, but what is lost in the lack of coffee stands and other businesses is more than made up for by the tranquil nature of this neighborhood.

The weather here is quite mild overall with extreme temperatures rare and snow even more rare. Rain and wind is your only barrier to walking with your pup and storms strong enough to keep you indoors usually only occur in the fall and spring.

View Ridge is built on a ridge which means that there are some pretty challenging hills in this neighborhood. Like most communities built on ridges, it is possible to walk north to south without having to face as many hills. The elevation changes in these directions are, overall, much gentler. If you are walking east to west, however, expect to get a great workout.

The elevation changes that give this neighborhood its spectacular view also give this area some very challenging hills for walkers and their energetic pups to climb. The area has sidewalks and shoulders give your dog someplace to explore. The traffic is very minimal, so you are able to roam the entire neighborhood at will, provided the hills do not scare you away.

If you are not ready for the terrain here, keep in mind that the Burke Gilman Trail runs through View Ridge on the east edge of the neighborhood.

Public greenways inside of View Ridge are very limited. Fortunately, there are other options just outside the neighborhood that offer you plenty of exercise and variety. View Ridge Park Playground is situated at the southwest end along NE 70th Street. It is small, but it does have a place to jog.

If this park is not enough for you, just across the street from the eastern boundary is one of the largest parks in Seattle, Magnuson Park. In addition to having vast amounts of grassy fields and trees, this park also has plenty of trails and an off-leash area where your pup can really let loose and burn off some of that extra energy.

Running parallel to both the park and the neighborhood along Sandpoint Way is the Burke Gilman Trail. This trail system is very popular with walkers from all over the north Seattle area. It goes around the north end of Lake Washington and loops through the University District and Ballard.
