Plandome Heights is a small community of cozy older homes with large suburban-sized yards. While not all of the streets have sidewalks, as long as you are careful, you and your pup should have no problem going for walks. There are several parks within walking and driving distance of varying sizes. When it comes time to buy your pup more food or have him groomed, you will have to drive out of the community to find what you are looking for. Unfortunately, the same applies to finding places to eat. There are a few, but they are not close enough to walk to.

If you like being outdoors and going for walks with your dog, you will love the weather here. The winters are very mild with temperatures during the day in the low 70s and 50s at night. During the peak of summer, the day temps run in the low 90s and nights in the 70s.

The terrain here is a nice blend of concrete, tarmac, trees, and grass if you count the yards. All of the streets have a sidewalk on at least one side of them with small grassy berms to separate them from the streets. There are a few shade trees along the way, but most of the trees seem to be in people's backyards. The ground here is as flat as just about anywhere else you might venture in Tampa. While it might not be the most exciting way to take your pup for a walk, think of it as a training ground. Start out slow and build up to the point where you and your pup can take long walks on the Copeland Park Trail and in the park's grounds. The trails loop all over the place just to make your hikes more fun and to keep things interesting.

The Copeland Park Trail is the only green space of any size within walking distance of Plandome Heights. The park boasts an extensive network of nature and asphalt trails to enjoy. The asphalt trail measures 1 mile long and takes you all over the park. Nature and fitness trails meander along boardwalks that traverse wetlands and through large wooded areas. There are numerous facilities such as a gym, a pool, a playground, grills, and more.

To the west lies Forest Hills Park and Community Center. At the western edge of the neighborhood, there is a small grass area with a lagoon. This space can make a nice change from the bigger park to the east as there is enough room for you and your pup to run around on or simply take a walk around the lagoon so they can stretch their legs. Please remember to pick up after your pet no matter where you walk with them.
