Description

The Tawas Point State Park has a lot to offer visitors. Nestled on the southwestern tip of a peninsula, this state park houses a puptastic campground right on Tawas Bay, and a furbulous beach!

Right next to the campground is where you can find a warm, shallow stretch of beach that is pawfect for a day of sand and sun! Doggoes get their own piece of beach, which is enclosed by fencing, between the campground and the lighthouse. Be aware that pups cannot go onto any other beach areas other than this pet-designated zone. Even though this area is fenced, your pup still needs to stay on a leash no longer than 6 feet in length at all times, even in the water.

Amenities are few here, so be sure to pack all that you'll need for a pawfect day at the beach. This includes snacks and water for both you and your dog, and of course, clean-up bags! Do your part and help keep this beach clean and pristine. Trash receptacles are on site.

Another area you can frequent with your pup is on the path to the lighthouse. This beautiful, Victorian-style lighthouse is reminiscent of what you see in classic paintings and oceanside photography.

The campground is also dog-friendly, so spend a night or two in the campground on the bay to extend your adventure. A dog-walking area is near the campground. Fishing is also pupular here. Boat mooring is near the campsites, and charter boats are also available. Thanks to the 800 by 25-foot reef, small and large fish abound in the area. Many fisherman land perch, pike, smallmouth bass, and walleye in the waters around the park. Hiking the trails is always a pawfect activity for your pup, but note that dogs are not allowed on this park's trail, the Sandy Hook Trail.

To get into this furmazing park, you'll need a recreation passport. For Michigan residents, this is an $11 pass that allows entrance into all Michigan state parks for a year, and can be purchased along with car license tabs or at the gate of any state park. For non-residents, daily passes for $9 and annual passes for $33 can be purchased at the gate of any state park.

For an afternoon or weekend, the beach at Tawas Point is pawfect for a romp in the sand with your furry bestie!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
