Description
You know you're in a pup-haven when the beach town's unofficial slogan is "nice dogs, strange people." We're not kidding - such a place exists, and it's known as Grayton Beach, Florida. A funky little beach town that's chalk-full of "free-spirited folks with a laid-back attitude," as the official website tells it, Grayton Beach is all heart and soul when it comes to diversity.

You and your pooch are more than welcome to enjoy the beautiful beaches that stretch along the Gulf of Mexico (beaches that have been named "most beautiful beaches in America by Dr. Beach). In the past, dogs ruled Grayton Beach (we're not kidding, it was almost all dogs), but now, there are a few rules and regulations to keep our canine companions on their best behavior.

You and your pup aren't able to run around and roam leash-free anymore (they used to be able to roam off-leash all over the beach and even into the bars!), but if you keep your pup leashed, all should be just fine. Walton County asks that you have a dog permit and that your pup always wears a tag. They even implemented special hours for pups - you and your dog can hang out on the beach on-leash between 6 pm and 8 am during Daylight savings time, and 3 pm and 9 am during standard time periods. All in all, the beach patrol is pretty lax as long as you're covering your bases, picking up after your pup, and keeping everyone well-behaved.

So, light a fire, watch the sunset, and splash around in the sun and the surf with your canine companion. We can guarantee it'll be a day and night to remember with your furry friend!
