The Town of Kiawah Island is a sleepy, little city - until tourist season hits, then it's a wide-awake, beach-goers dream! You and your pooch are lucky enough to be welcomed on to the Kiawah Island Beach coastline year round, but there are a few regulations that go along with this.
For starters, you and your dog can run around totally leash free - but only during the time period between November 1st and March 15th. This only applies to the main beach area.
Dogs are allowed to be off-leash all year round at the designated dog use area - that's right, we said there's a designated dog use area, AKA a beach just for you and your canine companion. This part of the beach is located between the eastern boundary of the Beach Club and the Ocean Course pedestrian access.
That being said, you have to keep your doggo under control and if a Beach Patrol officer sees your pup getting rowdy, it's back to the leash, my friends! Your pup can still enjoy the regular beach with you from March 16th to October 31st, but they must be leashed at all times.
Enjoy this seasonal leash law, clean up after your pooch, and make sure to stop into town after a long day at the beach for some doggo treats and human foods. You'll be glad you did!
