Description
Orient Beach State Park, located on the eastern side of North Fork, is known for both its natural beauty as well as its plethora of family-friendly activities. This sought-after destination for both locals and travelers was deemed a National Natural Landmark in 1980 due to the Red Cedars, Blackjack Oak Trees, and Prickly-Pear Cactuses that span the forested portion of the park. The 48-acre open area in Suffolk County is also home to a plethora of marine wildlife, primarily birds, claiming the recognition of a Audubon Important Bird Area. To top all of that, the State Park contains 45,000 feet of beach alongside Gardiner's Bay.

Bring your pooch along to take in the sites via a hike on the beach or through the trails in the forest. The trails are also bike-friendly, and you can pick up a bike once parked as they are rentable on site. The area is perfect for your family or friends for a fun day at the beach.

Orient Beach State Park rents kayaks/canoes, paddle boards, or windsurfers to patrons to enhance swimming fun. You can also bring your fishing gear along and cast out from shore or send the kids over to the playgrounds. Want something a little more laid back? Horseshoes, a bocce court, and a shuffleboard are available from April to October.

The fun and plethora of things to do don't end there! Check-in during holiday seasons to see what celebration you can join, such as a Holiday Tree Lighting or an Easter Egg Hunt. The Park also partners with a few recreational companies to bring special events, such as, kayak tours and bike-a-thons, so be sure to check the calendar!

Worried about a day of fun in the sun without refreshments? Don't be! There is a snack stand on site (seasonal), grills where you can bring your own food to cook, and picnic tables to eat. For a fee, you can also rent a pavilion, based upon availability. You can even take a piece of the park's history home with you from the gift shop.

Orient State Beach Park is a great place for a day of fun with your pup! Between hiking through the gorgeous scenery, walking on the beach, or lounging in a picnic area, your dog will be happy to share in the adventures with you. Be sure to clean up after your dogs in order to keep the beach a positive area for all dog owners, pack some puppy snacks and a water bowl, and be mindful of those around you by keeping your dog at an arms length!
