Located near Machesna Mountain Wilderness, the dog-friendly La Panza Campground is great for relaxing and exploring the forest. Popular activities at and around the wilderness include hiking, horseback riding, hunting and OHV recreation. Spread over almost 19,000 acres, the campground has around 45 miles of routes, providing amazing outdoor rejuvenation.
You will like the canyon setting. The campground includes numerous oak trees and also boasts a seasonal creek. You need to keep an eye out for wildlife that roams around, including black bears, coyotes, and foxes. The rugged outdoor experience and proximity to OHV trails attract adrenaline junkies and hikers who enjoy this campground the most. But at the same time, you can sit back and enjoy some peace and quiet with your pup. The campground is back in the hills and the sites are far apart. You can join the OHV enthusiasts but if you'd prefer not to, you won’t be disturbed by them.
There are 15 single campsites, all spaciously situated. They’re best for tents and RVs under 15 feet. You can build campfires only in the fire rings provided. There is no water, so bring enough for yourself and Fido. There is no electricity either, but you will find adequate shade at the campground. There are 5 vault toilets at La Panza. While the road leading to the grounds ends in a cul-de-sac, there is sufficient space to turn around. Nearby attractions include trails, lakes, and scenic overlooks. The nearest shopping is almost 30 miles out in Santa Margarita, so it’s important that you plan for a self-sustained trip to La Panza Campground. This includes packing poop bags for your doggo and cleaning up after them.
All in all, the campground provides the best of both worlds; you can come here for relaxation and a thrilling experience. You know Fido best, so choose whatever type of camping trip works best for you!
