Located near Mammoth Lakes in California, Twin Lakes Campground lies in the eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains. This dog-friendly campground is great for lakeside camping, combining beautiful scenery with numerous outdoor activities. Located at an elevation of 8,600 feet and at the base of Mammoth Mountains, it is popular for skiing as well.
The lodgepole pine forest provides a nice blend of privacy and partial shade. The mountains have plenty of wildlife, including mountain lions, black bear, pine marten, mule deer, pika, and numerous birds and fish species. The lake provides excellent opportunities not just for fishing and boating, but hiking and watching waterfalls; a cascading waterfall joins one of the lakes. It is also close to the town’s amenities. Trout fishing is particularly popular here – the 108-acre lakes are the perfect location to fish for brown brook and rainbow trout. The calm waters are also great for kayaking and canoeing. You will also find plenty of trails to tackle with your pooch nearby. This includes a 4-mile trail on Mammoth Mountain and two shorter nature trails by the lakes.
Twin Lakes Campground is a big facility, with campsites available in three sections on both sides of the Twin Lakes. Two sections are near the shore on the west side. The third section is perched on a hill. Choose the one that you and Fido will enjoy most. Just remember to include poop bags in your supplies and clean up after your doggo. The campsites come with campfire rings, tables, flush toilets, and drinking water. You can use the facility’s general store for showers in addition to supplies and boat rentals.
You can also visit the amazing John Muir Wilderness nearby, stretching 100 miles across the top of Sierra Nevadas, boasting snow-capped mountains and deep canyons. You can find more hiking and horseback riding trails there. All in all, a trip to Twin Lakes Campground will be full of fun for you and Fido.
