At the north end of South Padre Island is a lovely beach park where you can enjoy a beautiful day out with your canine pal. Nestled among condo and hotel developments, the Andy Bowie Park draws visitors with its pawsome gulf views, driveable beach, and RV park. It's a furrific destination for two- and four-legged beach bums alike, so pack your gear and get ready for some fun in the sun!
You and Fido will find the Andy Bowie Park directly across from the SPI Convention Center. Once you hop out of the car, you'll be greeted by two large picnic pavilions, food and beach rental concessions, a flagship hotel, and a nice beach. Take your pup for a stroll in the sand and a romp in the waves, but don't let them run loose unless you want to get fined! Always keep your pooch on a leash, and help keep the beach clean by picking up whatever Fido puts down. Have clean-up bags on hand, and also water to share. Have fun and enjoy the area, but stay alert for Portuguese man-of-wars, which have been reported by some visitors.
Aside from doggie waste bags, bring chairs, towels, and umbrellas so you and your pup can relax by the ocean when Fido gets tired from jumping among the waves. If you prefer to pack light, you can also rent these items on-site. Don't leave your cooler at home, though—barbecue areas are available, so be sure to pack delicious food to throw on the grill!
To extend your outing, make yourselves at home at the RV park, which is a short walk from the beach and a great spot to view the stars at night. It is recommended to reserve your spot in advance as campsites are limited. Dry camping sites start at $20, while standard sites start at $40.
A puptastic time awaits you and your four-legged friend at the Andy Bowie Park!
