Description
Ano Nuevo State Reserve, also known as Ano Nuevo State Park, is a picturesque recreational area in Pescadero, California. This stunningly beautiful natural retreat bears the distinction as being a breeding ground and natural habitat for over 10,000 elephant seals. Visitors flock to view the elephant seals frolicking on the scenic sand dunes or in the water.

However, it is important to note that during the seals' molting season, a visitor permit is required, and hours are reduced. Dogs are welcome to join their owners on the grounds of Ano Nuevo State Park; however, they are required to remain on a lead, avoid beach areas, and not disturb the seals. There is no designated dog play area provided nor are there any amenities for dogs.

Owners should bring drinking water and poop bags with them to the park. The responsibility for all pet waste removal falls to each owner. Ano Nuevo State Park is a private recreational space, and entrance to the grounds is fee-based. Park officials collect a $10 fee per vehicle to access the property. It is unknown if there is a cost associated with the required visitor's permit during molting season.

Ano Nuevo State Park's landscape offers varied terrain and stunning views for families to enjoy. Its trails are considered to be moderately difficult. Many wildlife species find their home in this beloved recreational space including two rare and endangered species: the San Francisco Garter Snake and the California Red-Legged Frog.

The Ano Nuevo River offers birdwatchers a haven to view many migratory birds, and the nearby Ano Nuevo Island houses a lighthouse and fully-functioning signal station. Also found on the property is a Marine Education Center which contains a bookstore, theater, and exhibits detailing the ecology and natural history of the region.

A public bathroom can be found here. Ano Nuevo Park expects all dogs visiting their property to be current on vaccinations. California state law also mandates all dogs to have a city dog license. For a day of fun exploring a great state park, bring Fido and the family to Ano Nuevo State Park!
