Has your pup been lying around the house all day? Then it’s time to take them for a walk in Armstrong Park. Serving the residents of Oakland Community, this urban green space used to have the plain name of Park Number 492. Furtunately, it was renamed in celebration of Lillian Hardin Armstrong, and exceptional jazz musician and former wife of Louis Armstrong.
Make no mistake,
this is a pawfect place for your furry companion to get some exercise. A paved
path makes a giant circle around the park. Walk, jog, or run with your pooch to
get their hear rate pumping. A few laps provides and great workout. When they
are all tuckered out, cool down with a stroll through the open lawn area. Your
pooch’s nose will get right to work and sniff out all the new smells. If your
doggo isn’t up for an intense walk, mosey around the trail then find a spot to
spread out a blanket. Your pup will always be up for a picnic, so bring a
sandwich for you and some biscuits for them and stick around for lunch.
Human visitors will appreciate the park's baseball fields and
basketball courts. And if you have two legged children in tow, stop by the
playground so they can have a little fun of their own. Do your part to keep
Armstrong Park smelling fresh. Always have a clean up bag on hand and ready to
go. Garbage cans are available, so be sure to pick up after your pooch. While
there are some trees in the park, there isn’t much shade. Since there isn’t
much relief from the summer’s sweltering heat, it’s super important to have
plenty of water on hand for your pup.
Your canine companion will agree, an afternoon in
Armstrong Park is time well spent!
