Beautiful lakeside views, lush green lawns, and trails that wind through the park for all to use are some of the wonderful features in Berger Park that attract humans and pups alike. The park is on the north side of Chicago in the neighborhood of Edgewater Glen, and boasts about 4 acres of land. This puptastic space is dog-friendly to leashed pups and can be a great place to socialize.
There is a small parking area off of a dead-end road that runs along the southern portion of the park. This road is usually free from traffic, so its a safe place to park with Fido, where you can get out and enter the park. Immediately, a trail takes you along the eastern concrete path that runs right along the shoreline. Rocks cover the slope of the remaining beach, but still provide bright blue views of the lake and sounds of crashing waves along the rocks. The trail travels to the northern part of the park, through a small nature section with shaded sitting areas, planted wildflowers, and other vegetation.
The trail loops around south through the center of the park, where you and Fido can see open space, to play in, a playground for kids, and even a small cafe called The Waterfront Cafe, which has dog-friendly outdoor seating with water bowls. Additionally, there is a large mansion on the southern portion of the park, built in the early 1900s it now acts as a residential facility with restrooms, benches, water fountains, and trash bins to use. The trail eventually connects back to the main parking area, although there's no reason not to go back and run around or play some more with your pup!
Although not the biggest, this lakeside paradise will offer all the amenities you and Fido are looking in a park, plus pretty views of the water and room to run around and play among the vibrant scenery.
