Have you ever felt like your life lacked spontaneity? You can add a little spontaneity to your life and contribute to your community when you get involved with the West Hartford Dog Park Coalition. Since 2008, this volunteer, 501c3 organization has been working with their town to establish a donor-funded dog park in the community. They are currently struggling to find a suitable location.
The West Hartford Dog Park Coalition might not have a permanent location in the community yet, but they have attended plenty of events and have made their presence known. In the summer, they plan and host a well-loved "Pooch Plunge" which attracts over 100 dogs to Beachland Park. They also attend parades to promote awareness and are active within the community.
There are Pop Up Parks, which are where the organizers announce a temporary dog park location and specific hours to attend and they host a dog park. These Pop Up Parks are to help foster community, increase awareness about the lack of dog parks, and hopefully get more people involved. To find out when activities like the Pooch Plunge or Pop Up Parks are being held, you can visit their official site or follow them on social media.
Whenever you take your dog into the community, always carry some plastic poop bags to clean up after them. Also, make sure your pup stays on a leash until it there is a designated area where it is safe for them to be unleashed. If you and your dog are heading to a community event, make sure your furry friend is up to date on all vaccinations and is healthy.
You want to foster the dog community, not increase its population, so make sure your pup is spayed or neutered. If your dog is aggressive, consider taking them to training classes or obedience school before interacting with a large group of unfamiliar dogs or people.
