Need a new place to walk your furry friend? Leash up your pup and pay a visit to Dunbar Park. Nestled in the Douglas Community, this park pays homage to Paul Laurence Dunbar, a beloved African American author from the early 20th century. While you and your pooch are out exploring, be sure to check out the beautiful sculpture and monument of Dunbar near the center of the park.
Head to the northern part of the park and you’ll find a
nice paved pathway that is pawfect for walking your pooch. Since it’s lined
with mature trees, your pal will enjoy some shade in the summer months and
colorful foliage in the fall. The pathway is surrounded with an inviting grass
area, so wander off the trail and let your pup sniff around for a new stick. If
there aren’t any games in play, your pooch can also romp around the
multipurpose fields. They do need to remain on leash though. When your pup is
ready for a break, head over to the pawsome reading garden and paws for a rest
on one of the benches.
Since it has four baseball diamonds, tennis courts, a
running track, and a batting cage, it should be no surprise that athletes love
this park. Is your pooch a sports fan? Then stop by and watch some of the local
teams battle it out. Dunbar Park also has a playground and splash pad on premises for
the two legged children.
Do your part to keep Dunbar Park free of doggy debris. Always
have some clean up bags on hand and ready to go. And don’t forget to bring some
water for your four legged sidekick, especially during the summer when the
temperatures can soar. Above all else, have a woofderful time hanging out with your
pooch in this furrific park!
