Despite its name, Hunting Park is not an open space used for hunting. Rather, it’s a pawsome park located in a North Philadelphia neighborhood that shares its same name. Over the years, the property has been home to a racetrack, a pupular music venue, and, yes, deer hunting grounds. Today, it is a woofderful place to take your furry friend for a walk.
The first thing your pooch will want to do when they get
to Hunting Park is walk around the paved pathways. And who can blame them? Walk,
jog, or run around the park so your furry friend can get their four legs
moving and enjoy some fresh air. The sidewalks loop around the large lawn areas.
If your pal needs a break from their workout, wander around the grass and let
them catch their breath. You can also paws for a water break under one of the
shade trees.
Over the past several years, Hunting Park has received a bit of a makeover. It now has furrific amenities like a community garden, an orchard, and playgrounds. There are six tennis courts that were made possible by the one and only Billie Jean King. Plus, the park also has baseball and football fields. And if that wasn’t enough, you’ll also find picnic facilities complete with grills. This park has everything!
While walking through the park, your pup will probably
pick up on the scent of the local critters. Hunting Park is home to squirrels,
raccoons, possum, and the occasional fox. Sniffing around it completely fine,
just make sure your doggo minds their manners and doesn’t chase after the
woodland animals. Also, be sure to have a couple clean up bags on hand and
ready to go. And don’t forget the water! Your pal will be thirsty after
cruising around the park. This is definitely one park your pup will want to
visit again and again!
