If your pup is feeling restless and is ready to get out and move, grab the leash and make your way over to Midway Plaisance Park. Also called “the Midway” by locals, this green space is nestled in the Hyde Park community and runs through the southern portion of University of Chicago. Your furry friend will absolutely love cruising around this mile long park!
Does your doggo love wandering through wide open areas? Then
this is the place to be! Known for its many grass fields, this park has more
than enough turf for your pooch to sniff. Let your pup be the guide as your
stroll across the lawn. There a few soccer fields, so watch for any games in
progress. Bring a blanket along and find a spot under one of the trees. After a
walk, your pup will love settling in for some people watching. Just don’t
forget to bring some clean up bags and water.
If they’d prefer a more structured walk, then meander along the park’s paved pathways. A small network
of trails weaves throughout the park and leads you past well manicured gardens,
mature shade trees, and shrubs. Paws for a break in the reader’s garden near
the impressive Carl von Linne monument, or wander over to the Thomas Garrigue
Masaryk Monument. Either way, your pup
will get a little taste of history.
When the snowfalls and Chicago’s temperature drops, the
Midway Plaisance Ice Rink is a hub of activity. Folks flock to this
facility for ice skating lessons, hockey games, or to just zoom around the rink.
Warming houses are available for thawing out frozen patrons. Even though your
pup won’t ever step paw on the ice rink, they’d still love a wintery walk
around the park.
Midway Plaisance Park is one spot your pup will want to
visit again and again!
