Mitchell Dog Park is a special area which has been designated as a dog run at the Mitchell Park in Palo Alto, California. There are ample spaces for vehicle parking in the main park's lot. The Mitchell Dog Park is a half acre, cordoned off area at the rear of the main park specifically for off-leash dog use.
Dogs are permitted in the main park area but must be kept on a leash at all times. The dog park area is bordered on one side by trees and bushes and on the other by the main park. It is open to the elements and there is not much shade for hot weather. It can get muddy when it rains.
The dog run is completely fenced off with a waist-high chain-link fence. It has been noted by some owners that large dogs are able to easily jump over it. The Mitchell Dog Park is surfaced with expanses of both grass and dirt. There is no separate section specifically for small dogs and so owners are expected to be attentive to their dogs to ensure the safety of the smaller breeds.
Any dog displaying aggressive behavior is expected to be removed from the off-leash area immediately. No dog handler is permitted to enter the off-leash area with more than three dogs. All dogs who use the Mitchell Dog Park are required to be correctly licensed by the Palo Alto authorities, have their vaccinations up to date and be wearing a collar with an identification tag.
There are benches and picnic tables around the perimeter of the dog run where owners can sit. Owners are expected to remain in the off-leash area the whole time their dogs are inside. It is not permitted to leave dogs unsupervised. There is a water fountain in the off-leash area for dog use only. Pet owners are expected to provide their own poop bags and pick up their dogs waste. Suitable bins are provided for its disposal.
