This off-leash dog area is managed by the Hudson River Park Trust and features plenty of attractive amenities for owners and their dogs alike. Given its close proximity to the Hudson River, North Chelsea Dog Park is recommended for its wonderful surrounding views, as well as a large number of dog-friendly restaurants located nearby.
The property is fully fenced, allowing both small and large dogs to run around and play with each other freely. It features a double-gated safety vestibule as well as a hard surface with drainage properties, plenty of benches, and shaded areas provided by the large trees found inside the park perimeter.
One of the park’s greatest attractions are the three different-sized swimming pools which dogs can take advantage of from mid-April through early November. Apart from this, all pups are given access to fresh running water, although owners are advised to bring their own during late fall, winter, and early spring as the city shuts off the water supply during this period of time.
Another great park feature is the possibility to hose off your dog during summer and provide him with a “rocky” landscape to climb on, while socializing with the other animals in the area. Even if there are no poop bags provided, owners need to be mindful about cleaning up after their pets and never leave them unattended. At the same time, all dogs need to be licensed and up to date on their vaccinations.
In addition to the great view of the Hudson River and Jersey Coastline, North Chelsea Dog Park is a great place to exercise your pooch on the manmade hills and refresh him in the swimming pools during the summer months. If you both get hungry after the play session is over, there is a restaurant nearby that allows dogs to have their own water bowl, while you enjoy your well-deserved drinks and meal.
