If you are looking for a great park in Chicago where you and your best pup can go hiking, without ever leaving the city, you are in luck! Park #538 is where you need to head to have an amazing adventure with Fido in tow.
You will find this park in the West Ridge community of the city with plenty of on-street and parking lot parking, with the lot at the entrance. Grab your pup and their leash and you are off on your exploration of this 35-acre park.
Taking your pup on a 3-mile hiking adventure could not be easier here! You have three choices of trails, depending on what you both would like to see! The Tallgrass Trail meanders through the prairie grass buffer between the city streets and the woods and will take you through areas where wildflowers and birds are abundant. Or why not try the Woodlands Trail which is filled with shade trees where deer, coyote and foxes live. The Riverbank Trail runs along the banks of the North Shore Channel, which runs through the middle of the park. Expect to see lots of river animals including turtles and herons while hiking! Your pup will enjoy any of these trails as they all have a natural footing surface.
These multi-use trails provide not only pup-friendly walking, but cross-country skiing in the winter, and a great place for mountain biking year-round. Another incredible feature of the park is the ability to canoe down the channel and see the park from a whole different angle! There are no restroom facilities here, so plan accordingly and bring water. Please keep your fur-ever friend on leash while enjoying this pawtastic park, and pack plenty clean-up bags to keep this park puperific!
