Rickenbacker Causeway Beach, also known as Hobie Island Beach Park, is located in Key Biscayne, Florida. This scenic waterfront property bears the distinction of being the only dog-friendly beach in Miami-Dade County. Situated just past the end of Rickenbacker Bridge, Rickenbacker Causeway Beach earns high marks from visitors for its beautiful views of Biscayne Bay and its tranquil atmosphere, which is conducive to a day of relaxation and water fun.
Though online reports show that this beach has passed its water quality testing 60-90 percent of the time, the Florida Department of Health does caution against swimming at this particular beach due to pollution. Rickenbacker Causeway Beach is a public facility. The beach management team is pleased to offer entrance to their beach at no cost to people and their pooches.
Rickenbacker Causeway Beach offers many amenities sure to enhance Fido's trip to the beach! Housed on the premises are bathrooms for public use and several concession stands, which offer snacks and ice cream for sale. There is no officially fenced area where dogs can enjoy off-leash play at this doggy play haven.
In accordance with Florida state law, all dogs must remain on a lead of no more than six feet in length in all public places. Rickenbacker Causeway Beach does not offer drinking water on the premises. For this reason, owners should come to the beach prepared with bottled water and a dog dish.
Since it is the responsibility of all owners to clean up after their pets, all owners are advised to bring poop bags with them to assist them with this task. The beach has a number of water sports equipment available for rental. Among the different items families can rent are the following: kayaks, windsurfing equipment, paddle boards (of the stand up variety), Hobie cats, and Sunfish sailboats.
Dogs are permitted to enjoy the sand areas and shallow water at Rickenbacker Causeway Beach but must remain leashed. It is important to note that dogs swimming in the water do so at the owner's risk. Nearby Rickenbacker Trail also offers opportunities for hiking, jogging, and rollerblading.
There are no officially posted rules regarding the use of Rickenbacker Causeway Beach. However, Miami law does mandate that all dogs have a current rabies vaccination.
