The East Side neighborhood of Chicago sure brings out a lot of people to the city, thanks to its laid-back community and abundance of green lawns and grassy plains, with access to the lake and preserves. Scenic and natural, this neighborhood also offers developed parks to play in like Rowan Park that provides a safe and large spot to play with Fido.
Parking can be found on East 116th Street, or in a small parking lot that's also shared with George Washington High School on the north side of the park. Paved trails connect both parking areas to the rest of the park, linking with a 1.6-mile loop that encircles the inside of the park. Trees line the trail edges and provide shaded sitting areas to rest under. On the inside of the loop, you and Fido will see a large open green space to play in, along with 4 baseball diamonds and a makeshift soccer field in the center.
That's not the only joys of being in Rowan Park though, as there are also things to enjoy on the outside of the loop. Forking trails lead walkers off the loop and to other amenities such as a skatepark on the west side of the park with restrooms, a playground, and fieldhouse on the southside of the park, next to a completely fenced-in baseball field that is perfect for letting Fido play in when it's not being used. Picnic tables, water fountains, and trash bins can also be found around the fieldhouse, perfect for stopping out after plenty of time getting some energy out with your pup in the open space of the park. Be sure to bring clean up bags to help keep this park puptastic!
This sunny park will be sure to bring plenty of happiness and excitement to your and Fido's walk outside, but it can get pretty busy after school, so be sure to get here early to play with your pup!
