Description
San Pasqual Battlefield State Historic Park is located on 50 acres of property in Escondido, California. This recreational facility sits on land where a battle renowned to have been the utmost in both blood and controversy in the Mexican-American War took place. Both sides declared the battle a victory; though, in essence, it was a draw.

The state park serves as a reminder of past tragedy in American history and as an encouragement to seek more peaceful conflict resolution. This state park is situated near to the San Diego Wild Animal Park, making it a convenient destination for a quick stop prior to a visit to the zoo.

Dogs are permitted to join their owners on the on-premise trail but are not allowed in public buildings. Dogs must remain leashed at all times. There is no specific area reserved for dog play nor are there any amenities provided for canine use. Owners should bring drinking water, a dog dish, and poop bags with them. All pet waste removal is the responsibility of each owner.

San Pasqual Battlefield State Historic Park is a public recreational facility. Entrance to the grounds is free of charge. Park officials often offer tours and programs which present "living history." These are available by reservation only and must be booked a minimum of three weeks in advance to guarantee a seat. There is one trail housed on the grounds.

It is not a long trail, but it does offer the opportunity for Fido and his family to stretch their legs. Owners must exercise great caution when using the trail as it is known to be a haven for rattlesnakes. There is a Visitor's Center housed on the grounds which offers interesting tidbits about the history of the battle fought on the property.

There are also bathrooms available for public use and picnic areas. San Pasqual Battlefield State Historic Park has instituted no specific rules governing the use of their park. However, it is always wise for dogs to be current on vaccinations and in possession of a city dog license. Looking to take a step back in time to enjoy a national historic site?
