If your doggo has been lying around the house all day, clip on their leash and head over to Shabbona Park. Serving the pets and people of the Dunning Community, this park stretches across 18.5 acres of land. It’s a pawfect place to spend some quality time with your pooch!
Since a couple buildings sit in the middle of the
property, the park is essentially divided in two. Both the northern and
southern sections have puptastic paved walking paths. Your canine companion
will love trotting along the sidewalk and wagging their tail at new friends. The sidewalks in the upper portion of the park run
through a couple open lawn areas. Feel free to let your furry friend wander off
the beaten path so they can feel the grass beneath their paws and check out the new smells.
As you make your way down to the lower portion of the
park, you’ll find that the walking paths circle the ballfields. If there are
no games in play, this is a great place to let your pal romp around and
explore, on leash, of course. Mature trees line the pathways, so in the summer
your pup will have some relief from the doggone hot temperatures.
Besides puptacular walking paths, this park also features
ball fields, tennis courts, horseshoe pits, and a playground. The fieldhouse for humans only includes an indoor swimming pool, gymnasium, and fitness center, and is partly used for Special Olympics training. That’s woofin’ amazing!
Do your part to keep Shabbona Park free of doggy debris. Bring some clean up bags from home and be sure to pick up after your pup. Also, your four legged buddy will be most appreciative if you have some cold water on hand.
Your pup will agree, Shabbona Park is a furrific destination for an
afternoon walk!
