Dogs living in the New City Community are lucky to have Sherman Park right in their own backyard. This green space was one of 10 neighborhood parks developed by the Olmsted Brothers in 1905. It has stood the test of time and remains a favorite spot of the local pets and their people.
Sprawling across 60 acres, Sherman Park is chock full of
furrific amenities. An onsite fitness center, gym, and swimming pool serve
those who love an active lifestyle. Two legged athletes make use of the
basketball and tennis courts, soccer and football fields, and baseball
diamonds. And human children love hanging out on the playgrounds.
Sherman Park's trademark is a closed loop lagoon with a center island. Nestled in the middle of the property, this body of water gives the park a welcome touch of wilderness. The park's main trail is a paved path that circles the lagoon. Your pup will absolutely love strolling around this delightful walkway and feeling like they are miles away from the city.
Sherman Park Natural Area is a 17 acre section of native
savanna, wetlands, and prairie habitats. Most of it surrounds the lagoon while
some of it is on the island itself. Venture
across one of the pedestrian bridges so your pal can check it out. Benches are
scattered throughout the park and there are plenty of shade trees. So if your
pup needs to rest their paws, stop for a minute or two and soak in the scenery.
Help keep Sherman Park free of doggy debris. Bring some
clean up bags from home and promptly pick up whatever your pooch puts down. And
your pup will be more than grateful if you also carried some water. After a
long walk, they’ll want nothing more than a long cold drink. This is definitely one
park your pooch will want to visit again and again!
