If Fido is asking you to go for a walk, head to Stephen Girard Park in the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This lovely park is just waiting for you both!
There is ample parking on the surrounding streets that encircle the park, so all you have to do is grab your pup and their leash and take off on an in-city outdoor adventure. Named after the richest man in the United States in the late 1700’s, Stephen Girard’s estate has been turned into a park for the community to enjoy.
Located on 4 acres, the beautifully landscaped grounds are welcoming to people and pups alike. Take a stroll along the paved paths which meander through the property, or for an extended walk, use the sidewalks which run outside of the grounds. There are plenty of benches which dot the former estate where you and your pup are welcome to sit awhile and enjoy the view. Shade trees are plentiful, as are well cared for shrubbery. The mansion still stands on this land and offers a beautiful backdrop for some selfies of you and your pawtastic pup enjoying the day together.
There are no restroom facilities or drinking fountains in this park, so be sure to pack plenty of water to share, especially during the hot summer months. It is essential to clean up after Fido to keep this park pup-friendly, so please remember to bring mutt mitts along. Leashes are required, so be sure to keep your pup on a lead no longer than 6 feet throughout the park.
