Sometimes your dog needs to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy some time in a quiet wooded area. Tacony Creek Park was once prime hunting land for the Lenape people. Eventually it was settled, and mills and farms were built along the creek. Today, it is an urban oasis full of wildlife and a variety of trees.
This 302 acre park surrounds Tacony Creek and is nestled in Northeast Philadelphia. The park’s main feature is the Tacony Creek Trail. Clocking in at 3.2 miles, it runs alongside Tacony Creek and gives your pal a place to reconnect to Mother Nature. Hop on the trail so your furry friend can get some exercise. They’ll love trotting through the lovely groves of trees and near the flowing creek. It may be tempting to let your pup splash around in the water, but it’s not a good idea. Due storm runoff and other pollutants, the water is not safe for swimming.
The trees surrounding the trail are teeming with little
creatures. Your pup’s nose will get right to work as they follow the scent of
the squirrels and raccoons. With over 100 species of birds living in the park,
your doggo will be serenaded from every angle.
The Tacony Creek Trail is a multi-use, so your pup will encounter cyclists, joggers, and other walkers. Help the mind their leash manners and yield as appropriate. There is parking at the park, but if you live nearby you can also get to the trail by one of the 10 neighborhood access points. Don’t forget to bring clean up bags and pick up any doggy debris your pup leaves behind. Also, it’s a good idea to carry plenty of water for both you and your furry friend.
No bones about it, Tacony
Creek Park will make your pup’s tail wag!
