Turkey Creek Dog Trail is located just outside of Austin, Texas near West Lake Hills and Emma Long Park. It is a 2.8-mile looping trail that has been considered one of the best off-leash dog facilities in near the city of Austin. The entire park is a flat area on the bed shores of the lovely Colorado river. There is plenty of room to play, exercise, swim, and enjoy the day at Turkey Creek.
There is a $10 admission that gives you access to the park all day. There are no water facilities or restrooms on along the trail, however, you will find a doggy bag dispenser while walking the trails. The trails follow Turkey Creek and have a few areas that are large enough to swim and play in. Some parts of the trails have elevations changes and maybe a bit of workout for you and dog, so keep that in mind as you hike these paths. Most of the trail is woods and forestry so you won’t get a great view of the lake, however, there is still great nature and wildlife to see and explore while you are enjoying your stroll with your pet.
Dogs are allowed off-leash, however, the owner must remain in control of their dog by sight and sound at all times. All dogs are required to have a rabies shot by state law. Dogs in heat are not allowed at off-leash parks. Please carry your leash with you at all times. Also, please clean up after yourself and your pet. It’s up to all of us to keep our parks clean. The majority of people who are on these trails have their dogs off-leash so if you have a dog that does not socialize well, this may not be the spot for you.
Overall, this is reported to be one of the best off-leash areas near Austin. If you and your pet need to get outdoors and enjoy some nature and freedom this is the place to be the trail, river, and open spaces are an ideal spot to spend the afternoon with your beloved pet.
