Washington Park is an expansive 367 acre park with a seemingly endless amount of things to do with your pupper. This big, tree filled park has a many indoor amenities, like gymnasiums, fitness centers, multi-purpose rooms, and a game room, but your canine companion will be able to enjoy the outdoor activities with you! Whether you want to enjoy some quiet contemplation in nature with your best pal, or get some invigorating exercise, there’s something for everybody and fur-buddy in Washington Park!
The green features in this park are plentiful, as you’re sure to discover while you wander along the paved pathways. If you head deep into the wooded nature area, you’re soon to forget you’re in the city! Here you can feed the birds and take in some fresh air. The park also features a harvest garden, and large lagoon that’s pawpular for fishing. The area around the lagoon is home to a variety of migratory birds. On the western side of the park, you can even find an arboretum, which features one of Chicago’s largest, and most unusual collection of trees. Butterflies, cherry blossoms, song birds, and fall colors are just some of the lovely sights in this arboretum. Your pup is welcome to join you here too!
A great attraction in this park is large Fountain of Time sculpture by Lorado Taft. This impressive piece of art features a hundred human figures from across the age spectrum. Some furtastic features of Washington Park include a large variety of athletic fields, courts, and playgrounds. The park hosts family friendly special events throughout the year, including holiday themed events and free concerts. Why not pack a picnic lunch and spend the day here? Dogs are allowed to join in on the fun throughout the outdoor areas of the park as long as they stay leashed and on their best behavior. Don’t forget to bring some waste bags and pick up after your pooch!
