Description

Pack up your pup and head out for a day’s adventure at the Tahoe Rim Trail: Kingsbury North Trail on the eastern shore of Lake Tahoe. Located in the city of Zephyr Cove, Nevada, there are all sorts of adventures just waiting for you and your pawtastic pup here!

Pick up the trailhead for this pup-friendly hike at the end of Andria Drive, near the Genoa Peak Road intersection. Park here and the trail is just north of you. Part of the 165-mile Tahoe Rim Trail, which runs around the entire Lake Tahoe in Nevada and California, this slice will offer you a small segment of this magnificent trail.

This moderate hike will take you 11.7 miles point-to-point and is suitable for athletic pup-abilities, not new hikers. The views of Castle Rock, Mount Tallac and even Emerald Bay will amaze you both. Very quickly you will also be treated to sights of the western shoreline of Lake Tahoe itself. The footing is packed soil and the trail meanders through open forests with a natural rolling grade throughout.

If you hike the entire 11.7 miles, you will find yourself at the Spooner Summit mountain pass, near Spooner Lake. At over 7,000 feet, this area is picture perfect and amazing. You can continue on the Tahoe Rim Trail from here, or you can turn around and head back to the Kingsbury North Trailhead where you began.

There are no restrooms and you will need to bring your own water and food. Summers can be hot so plan accordingly to keep your pup comfortable. Insect repellant is very useful. Fido can remain on or off leash, and the trail is best used during the months of March to October, as snowfall can be too deep in other months.

The Kingsbury Grade North Trail on the Eastern Shore of Lake Tahoe is going to become top on your list of hikes to do with your puperific friend in the great state of Nevada.
