Introduction

You like organic foods, cotton fabrics, and fresh flowers. You use soaps without chemicals. You're an all natural kind of person. So why shouldn't you give your new dog a natural name? Inspired by the wind, the sun,  the water, or the woods, a natural name reflects your own love of nature. Whether soft and gentle, like a delicate breeze, or strong and fierce, like a great storm, use your name choice to reflect your dog's personality (or the opposite, like Thunder, for a tiny, quiet dog). Check out this list of natural dog names to get some ideas.

Natural Dog Name Considerations

Choosing a name is a long-term commitment. There are hundreds of natural names to be considered so how do you narrow it down to one? Start by selecting a few favorites and eliminating the rest. If you have too many choices you'll never get a unanimous decision.

Next, take a good look at your new fur buddy. Is there anything about them that makes you think of a natural element? Their breed, color or personality? Do they have ice blue eyes or a pink nose? What are your hopes and aspirations for them? Is your dog going  to be a lapdog or will they be a working dog?

Try out a few names. Is it easy to say? Does it have a hard consonant in it so it will catch your dog's attention? A name that has one or two syllables usually works best because it's short enough for the dog to recall easily. Try yelling it as if you are at the dog park. Is it unique enough you won't have a dozen dogs running to you?

A name that is natural is normally clean and simple. If that sounds like what you want, then choosing a nature inspired name is just...well, natural.
