Introduction

The children's animation juggernaut Cartoon Network has produced a number of massively successful shows over the past few years; Adventure Time, The Amazing World of Gumball, Steven Universe, and even Teen Titans GO! Younger readers may think that this is a recent trend, but older viewers know better. Shows like Dexter's Laboratory, The Powerpuff Girls, and Johnny Bravo were largely responsible for elevating Cartoon Network to its current status. Many of these shows aired throughout the late 1990s to early 2000s - an era now referred to as the "Golden Age of Cartoon Network." Another thing that most of these shows had in common is that the legendary animator Genndy Tartakovsky was linked to them in some way or another. Is Mr. Tartakovsky's name not ringing any bells? What about Hotel Transylvania or Symbiotic Titan? Genndy Tartakovsky is the mastermind behind those projects as well as one of the most beloved shows from Cartoon Network's Golden Age, Samurai Jack.

Samurai Jack Inspired Dog Name Considerations

If you grew up watching Cartoon Network's Golden Age shows, there's a high likelihood that you've watched Samurai Jack during your childhood. First debuting on August 10th, 2001 Samurai Jack took the world by storm. The show followed a semi-episodic format in which the titular character - a Samurai from Edo Period Japan named Jack - traversed a dystopian future in a bid to return home. Like from Cartoon Network's Golden Age, Samurai Jack actually presented a myriad of mature themes and concepts; the show mused about the meaning of life and death, dissected hot button issues like classicism, racism, and sexism, and was pretty violent to boot. It's actually that last part that elevated the show to epic heights alongside another key factor that we don't want to undermine.

Samurai Jack's beautiful art direction and ingeniously choreographed action sequences are two of the biggest contributors to the show's massive success. The sequences that Mr. Tartakovsky and his team of writers, animators, voice actors, and sound engineers constructed were excellent to the point of rivaling cinematic maestros like Akira Kurosawa, Hayao Miyazaki, Sergio Leone, and Jean-Luc Goddard. All of this from a children's show. But that's what made the show so popular - Mr. Tartakovsky didn't think of Samurai Jack as a children's show - he thought of it as a show with a lot of heart and a lot of action.
