Weruva product ranges and flavors

Weruva offers four product ranges featuring 39 wet food and supplement variations that come in cans, pouches, and cups.

All Weruva wet dog foods are "complete and balanced," meeting the Association of American Feed Control Officials' (AAFCO) nutrient profile guidelines for maintenance (adults), growth (puppies), or all life stages.

Let's take a closer look at Weruva's flavors and variations.

Weruva Classic Dog Food Variety Pack

Weruva Classic Dog Food Variety Pack

Weruva Classic Dog

Weruva Classic Dog food is the Brand's flagship dog food range. You'll find 14 flavors of Weruva Classic canned dog foods, with exciting flavors like “Cirque de la Mer” tuna and veggies in pumpkin soup and “Peking Ducken” chicken and duck in gravy.

It's worth noting that, despite the many flavors of Weruva Classic Dog, the primary meat source in 10 out of the 14 recipes is chicken.

All recipes list a quality meat source — like boneless, skinless, white meat chicken breast — in the top two ingredients. In a few products, "water sufficient for processing" is the top ingredient. One common ingredient, sunflower seed oil, is high in omega-6 fatty acids, while pumpkin is rich in fiber and micronutrients. Weruva Classic Dog recipes are grain-free and limited-ingredient.

Weruva Classic Dog food recipes contain an average of 57.2% protein as dry matter, which is considered high for wet dog food.

Like all its recipes, Weruva Dogs in the Kitchen lists quality skinless and boneless meat in the top ingredients. For example, the "Double Dip" recipe lists grass-fed beef, beef lung, and beef kidney in the top five ingredients.

As well as common ingredients like sunflower seed oil and pumpkin, Weruva adds vitamin B1, vitamin B2, and other essential nutrients to its recipes. All recipes are grain, gluten, and carrageenan-free

Weruva Dogs in the Kitchen dog food recipes contain an average of 56.4% protein as dry matter, which is considered high for wet dog food.

Weruva Meals 'n More

Weruva Meals' n More is the brand's grain-inclusive wet food range. These recyclable cup meals are formulated to aid digestion and improve skin and coat health. You'll find eight wet food recipes, including "Paw Lickin' Chicken" chicken breast in gravy and "Bed and Breakfast" chicken breast, egg, pumpkin, and ham.

Quinoa is the grain used in these dog foods and is nutritionally superior to rice. This range also includes other nutritious ingredients, like inulin, a prebiotic fiber that helps regulate a dog's digestive system and reduces the chances of diarrhea and constipation. Coconut oil also helps keep a dog's coat shiny and their skin healthy.

Weruva Meals 'n More recipes contain an average of 48.7% protein as dry matter, which is considered high for wet dog food.

Weruva B.F.F. Fun Size Meals

Got a pint-sized pooch? Weruva B.F.F. Fun Size Meals are small cup meals made especially for small dogs. These are grain-inclusive recipes, with rice as one of the top five ingredients of all flavors.

There are eight Weruva B.F.F. Fun Size Meals variations, including "Roll the Dice" chicken breast and rice and "Oh So Nice" sirloin tips and rice.

Quality skinless and boneless meat is listed with the top two ingredients of each food. For some products, meat broth is the top ingredient. Most recipes are very limited-ingredient, consisting of three or four main ingredients besides added vitamins and minerals.

Weruva B.F.F. Fun Size Meals contain an average of 44.1% protein as dry matter, which is above average for wet dog food.

Weruva Pumpkin Patch Up

Weruva Pumpkin Patch Up is a range of supplemental meal toppers that add flavor and nutrients to your fur-baby's meals. Recipes are made with high soluble and insoluble fiber levels to improve stool quality.

You'll find three recipes available, all of which list pumpkin as the primary ingredient. Secondary ingredients like turmeric, flaxseed, and ginger are all beneficial to your doggo's health. For example, ginger is rich in antioxidants and can help prevent gas and bloating.

Please note that Weruva Pumpkin Patch Ups are not "complete and balanced" and are for supplemental feeding only.

Why Wag! likes Weruva

Here are a few reasons why Wag! pawsitively loves Weruva!

Recommended by Wag!'s pet nutrition expert and veterinary consultant

Dr. Georgia Jeremiah, one of Wag!'s licensed veterinary consultants, personally recommends Weruva to her own clients. Check out her thoughts on the brand:

"Weruva dog food focuses on minimal carbohydrate recipes and human-grade ingredients, incorporating boneless meats that are free from added hormones or antibiotics."

Minimally processed foods made with human-grade ingredients

Weruva dog foods are made with high-quality ingredients, including its pâté recipes. You'll be able to easily identify different ingredients after opening a pack or can of Weruva — no gray mush to be seen here!

All Weruva's dog foods meet human consumption standards. The protein sources, including the commonly used skinless, boneless chicken, are human-grade.

Limited carbohydrate content and high protein levels provide a quality source of energy.

Strict quality standards

Weruva's foods are made in FDA-certified factories. The company also meets the Brand Reputation Compliance Global Standards (BRCGS), which sets high safety, quality, and operational standards for brands.

Limited-ingredient recipes

Most Weruva dog food products are made with limited ingredients. For example, the Weruva Classic Dog range features recipes with only four or five primary ingredients, other than added vitamins and minerals.

Limited-ingredient diets are packed with protein and zero fillers, making them perfect for dogs with food sensitivities or allergies. They may also help dogs with digestive issues.

Money-back guarantee

Weruva has a generous money-back guarantee. If your dog doesn't like the flavor of Weruva or you're unhappy with the product, you can return any unopened cans, pouches, or cups for a refund or credit within 30 days of purchasing.

Weruva also offers exchanges (but no refunds) on unused products up to 60 days after the purchase date.

Concerns & considerations

Here are a few things to bear in mind before deciding to purchase Weruva for your pup.

Needs to be refrigerated after opening

After opening, you'll need to refrigerate any leftovers in your cans, pouches, or cups. A tightly sealed container of Weruva dog food will last three to four days in the fridge.

Chicken is the main protein source in most recipes

Most of Weruva's dog foods contain chicken as the primary (or only) meat source. You'll want to go with a different dog food brand if your dog has a poultry allergy.

Concerns about grain-free diets

In 2018, the FDA launched an investigation into the reports of possible links between grain-free diets and the development of enlarged heart (a condition called DCM). The investigation is focused on dog foods with high amounts of potatoes and pulses. non-hereditary canine dilated cardiomyopathy.

Weruva was not one of the dog foods with DCM reports named by the FDA. The investigation is ongoing, and as of December 2022, the FDA had no new scientific data to share.

“For most dogs, these diets are just fine. They have real benefits for those with grain sensitivities, though this isn't a very common food allergy. For some dogs, however, grain free diets could be damaging."

— Dr. Linda Simon MVB MRCVS, veterinary surgeon and vet consultant with Wag!

Since Weruva hasn't been named in the report, there's no evidence that any of Weruva's grain-free dog foods could potentially cause DCM.

Consult your veterinarian if you have concerns about feeding your dog grain-free Weruva recipes.

No recipes formulated for specific age groups

Most Weruva dog foods only meet the AAFCO nutrient profile for maintenance (adults), meaning they're unsuitable for growth (puppies) and pregnant pups. Additionally, they may not be the best option for senior dogs

You'll need to feed your puppy a different dog food before switching them onto Weruva. And while the AAFCO hasn't published nutrient profiles for seniors, you may also want to switch your dog to a new food that's higher in protein as they enter their golden years.

Consult your vet if you're unsure whether Weruva is suitable for your dog.

What pet parents say about Weruva

"Cooper loves this food. I think he tries digging through [the] bottoms of his bowl when it's gone looking for more. And it looks and smells of human consumption quality. Awesome."

"My small dog had stopped eating her kibble, and we were trying to find canned food that she would like. This is the best we've found - she loves it and it actually looks like real food."

Weruva's brand history

From the very beginning, Weruva has been a family-run business. Stacie and David Forman founded Weruva in 2006 and named it after their 3 cats: Webster, Rudi, and Vanessa.

The Formans decided to start their own dog food company after being frustrated by the quality of even the best dog food on the market. So they decided to formulate their own dog food recipes using human-grade ingredients made at FDA-approved facilities.

Weruva is based in Natick, MA.

Weruva recalls

At the time of writing, there are no recorded official recalls of Weruva dog food.
