What is the terrain like in North Park?
North Park is a large, irregularly shaped neighborhood with Park Boulevard and University Heights on its northwest side, Florida Canyon and Hillcrest on its west side, Balboa Park on the southwest, South Park and Switzer Canyon on the south end, and Intestate 805 along its eastern border.
Most of North Park is residential with closely set, single-family dwellings on well-landscaped properties. The terrain is flat and there are no steep hills to climb when hiking with your pooch. Sidewalks are prevalent in the area along commercial and residential streets, so you and your pup won't have to share the road with local traffic.
There is some rough natural terrain on the south side where Switzer Canyon and Juniper Canyon extend from the natural area into North Park. If traveling east out of the neighborhood, you will have to cross the freeway at main streets that run over the freeway and have pedestrian paths along them.
How many greenways are there in North Park?
North Park has a greenway of the same name. The North Park Community Park has a playground, sports fields, recreational facilities, paved paths, open areas, and some trees.
To the southwest of North Park, the 1,200-acre Balboa Park provides plenty of sights and attractions to locals and their pets. The Morley Dog Park is located adjacent to North Park at the northeast side of Balboa. The surface is mostly dirt and wood chips, but there is also a large grassy field to run in. Dogs must be supervised and there are benches for dog owners to sit and watch their charges. A doggy water fountain is located here so your pooch can stay hydrated. Trails extend from the dog park into the other areas of Balboa Park while some venues like the zoo, museums, and some gardens and historic sites are not accessible to dogs. There is even a trail-side eatery which welcomes furry friends in their outdoor seating area.
