Wag! Walkers know Stevens Park Estates
Stevens Park Estates sits in the northwest corner of the Oak Cliff neighborhood of Dallas. Bordered by N. Hampton Road on the west, Fort Worth Avenue on the north, and Stevens Park Golf Course to the southeast, it is a residential neighborhood of about 200 homes. It is an established neighborhood within the larger setting of the diverse Oak Cliff community.
Solely a residential neighborhood, you won’t find dog-friendly restaurants or businesses here, but you will find a few in the greater Oak Cliff area. At West Davis and West 7th Street, Bolsa, Oddfellows, Tillman’s, and Tinman’s all offer outdoor seating for you and your furry friend. Watch the Texas heat in the summertime and take precautions for the hot pavement by walking your pup in the early morning hours before the heat of the day sneaks in. Enjoy walking throughout the day in the other three seasons as they usher in the mild weather Texas folks love.
What is the terrain like in Stevens Park Estates?
The Stevens Park Estates community is an older, established neighborhood that will welcome you and your pup with old growth trees providing shaded walks. N. Hampton Road, W. Colorado Blvd. and N. Plymouth Road are all heavy traffic roads that you will want to use caution in and around. It never hurts to be equipped with reflective clothing for yourself and reflective gear for your pup when you are in neighborhoods with diverse traffic patterns. Keep yourself and your pup visible to drivers!
However, the heart of the neighborhood provides nice sidewalks with a slightly rolling terrain. It is a nice mix or artificial and natural terrain. You will want to keep your furry friend on a short leash throughout this area as the natural turf will almost always be a private lawn and front driveways can be tricky to navigate with inattentive drivers. Plan to pick up waste as you go and carry water for you and your pup.
How many greenways are there in Stevens Park Estates?
While the neighborhood of Stevens Park Estates is an older, established neighborhood that mixes natural and artificial terrain with ease, there are not many planned green spaces. The Stevens Park Golf Course wraps around the eastern and southern parts of the neighborhood, but it is not really an appropriate place for walking with your pup. You can keep to the outside edges of the course, but the paths and greens are reserved for golfers.
Annie Stevens Park is at the southern edge of the neighborhood. Fondly referred to as a toddler park, there are many playscapes for children. Know your pup's personality with children and don’t be afraid to limit or deny petting requests for the safety of your pup.
Not far to the south is the amazing Oak Cliff Nature Preserve with 121 rolling acres of woodland. Complete with 8 miles and six loops of hiking and biking trails, your pup will be happy to tire themselves out here.
