This is off-leash dog beach is located at the northern end of Montrose Beach. It is a fenced in area where your pooch can explore and have fun playing in the water and sand! Doggie waste bags are provided, as well as a station to wash off your sandy dog before leaving. You will need to pack water and something for shade. Keep in mind that tags are a requirement for dogs and the cost is to enjoy the beach is $5.

Whalon Lake

This pawesome neighborhood is located 19 miles from Hillside and is home to the Whalon Lake Dog Park. This off-leash dog park encompasses 8 fenced-in acres. There is also a smaller section of 2.5 acres for smaller dogs under 30 pounds. Something to keep in mind is that a permit is required to use this park, but the permit fee is worth it. You'll find all the amenities you'd expect from a good dog park here: benches, shelters, open grassy areas, paved trails, and picnic spots. The lake is off limits to canine friends, but you can still enjoy the scenic view together. You will want to pack all the essentials, such as water, doggie waste bags, and some snacks.

Green Valley Forest Preserve

This fur-iendly neighborhood is located about 19 miles from Hillside and is home to the Green Valley Forest Preserve. This is a great place to bring your pooch if you want to spend a little time in nature. Your pup is allowed to roam off their leash in a very large area with lush green grass. There are separate areas for smaller breeds and larger breeds. There are dirt-covered trails for a relaxing on-leash stroll. You will need to bring doggy waste bags and some water with you. Remember, this is a nature preserve, so don't let Fido harass any of the wildlife!

Wrigleyville

Were you and your pooch looking to learn about the history of Chicago while enjoying a boat ride? Then you're in the right neighborhood! Here, you'll find the Mercury Canine Cruise, a dog-friendly cruise that takes you down Chicago’s waterways. This is a great way to learn about the city with your pup by your side. You will need to have your pooch on your lap or on the seat, and they must have their leash on during the cruise. There is plenty of seating and there are water bowls for your pooch as well as newspaper lined restrooms for them to use. This cruise is fairly inexpensive, and you can also do a group rate. For a day of fun on the water with your best fur-iend, make sure to book your tickets online.

Beck Lake

This neighborhood has a great dog park to visit. Beck Lake Dog Park is just 14 miles from Hillside. You do need a membership to visit this park, but the amenities available here make the fee well worth it. This huge park stretches across 44 acres and is completely fenced in. Your canine pal will love running and exploring this park. There are grassy open fields to sniff, trees to run around, agility equipment to play on and a pond to swim in! Your furry friend will not get bored at this pawesome park. For a quiet walk, hit the trails, where your pal needs to be leashed. Water fountains are provided for thirsty pups. You will need to bring supplies for cleaning up, though.
