Description

Laid-back, surrounded by gorgeous scenery and just forty-five minutes from Fresno -- Mammoth Pool Campground might just be the paw-fect spot for a Fido-friendly Sierra National Forest getaway! Facilities at Mammoth Pool are pretty primitive. You won’t find any showers, electricity or RV hookups here, but if you and your pup are willing to "ruff" it a bit, you can really reap the benefit of your surroundings. The campground is fringed by a forest of cedar and ponderosa pine, most sites are shaded, and the sites are just half a mile away from the beautiful Mammoth Pool Reservoir. You’ll also be treated to views of the San Joaquin River. The campground can get busy in the summer months, so it’s best to book early, particularly if you’ll be camping in an RV -- not all sites are RV friendly. Sites start at $25.24 a night, and there’s no entrance fee to the area.

Though Mammoth Pool is a popular swimming spot, your pooch will have to keep all four paws on dry land. Nevermind -- you two are still sure to sniff out something to do! There’s a three-mile trail around the reservoir that’s rated as easy and pretty pawpular with families. Fitter furry friends in search of a challenge might want to try their luck on the French Trail! This thirteen-mile out and back route wanders through wooded wonderland, features some steep inclines, and leads to the strikingly rugged Ansel Adams Wilderness. Bear in mind that you’ll need a wilderness permit to explore the area, and that the fabulous mountain landscape doesn’t provide much shade. If casting a line is your idea of a good time, you’ll be glad to know that Mammoth Pool is well-stocked with trout.

Wifi isn’t available at Mammoth Pool, but most cellular networks should receive at least fair-to-middling coverage for voice and data. Fires are permitted, but only within designated rings, and regulations can change with the weather. You won’t find any drinking water at the campground, so bring your own or bring a filter. Remember to bring waste bags for your pupper, and have a furrific time!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
